In May of this year Ruth Neal, Green Team’s founder and Chairman decided to take on a challenge to raise money for the British Heart Foundation’s research. Here is Ruth’s story:
“10 years ago my idea of a nice walk was a 12 – 15 mile amble through the North or South Downs. 3 years ago I was struggling to walk more than a few hundred yards without being out of breath and having a pain in my chest. On 11th May this year I walked from my home in Cornwall along the South West Coast path to Sennen Cove. It is about 8 miles, so for many people not a long walk and for me it was challenging but achievable. For those who know this part of the world this section of the Coast Path can best be described as “undulating” with some very steep sections. I completed this walk to celebrate my health and the work of the British Heart Foundation – something which is close to my…err heart!
I am so grateful to all my sponsors, friends and family who helped me to raise the magnificent sum of £1,000 for this fabulous charity.”
This sum put Ruth in the top 5% of Just Giving fund raisers in May – a great achievement.
The BHF has helped halve the number of people dying from heart and circulatory disease in the UK but sadly every day hundreds of people lose their lives. It’s only thanks to support from people like us that the BHF can create new treatments and discover new cures. £24 could pay for two hours of research by an early career scientist, but every pound helps.
