Well, let me begin by saying that we are ‘refreshing’ our existing website, not having a new one built, ours is three years old now and received wisdom indicates that it’s time to make some changes.
So what?
The majority of people reading this blog will be involved in a business, and every single one of those businesses will have a website. So let me ask you a question, when was the last time you read your website?
I don’t mean glanced at it or referred to a certain page. I mean actually sat down and read it, a proper look at the window through which so many visitors view your business. As somebody that has spent more than a few hours scouring every page of our website, I can tell you that it’s a real eye-opener of an exercise.
The reason we are making changes is because we want the site to be more visually striking, and a little less wordy. We have a huge collection of vibrant images that we think say so much more about our work than any number of words, so we have been looking to edit down the written content.
I said real eye-opener, here’s why.
A lot of what we wrote three years ago concerns our principles and our commitment to ‘A Better Way’ of doing business. We are a small but successful company operating in a field dominated by some huge nationally recognised brands, brands that people know and respect. Our continued growth could easily be attributed to the way that we do business, and I am absolutely sure that our customers genuinely appreciate the way that we operate.
But here’s the thing.
We are also very, very good at what we do. There, I said it, and boy-oh-boy it feels good. We don’t say it nearly often enough, in fact, I think this is the very first time that I have committed this thought to paper, well not paper, but you know what I mean.
Take a look at your website and see how many times you remind people of how great you are, then you can stand up with me and say it loud and proud
‘My name is ****, I work at ***** and we are very, very good at what we do.’
