A View from the Marsh

Fall into Autumn

The last of the summer sun left us in September, and while we may still enjoy a few rays, the heat wanes and the expression ‘watery sunlight’ will be uttered by TV weather forecasters and the more erudite sports commentators.

The warmth may have left the sun, but there is something truly magical about the light in autumn, the skies take on an almost supernatural blue and as the shadows lengthen, every colour on every tree across our beautiful Steep Marsh is picked out in glorious relief.

Here, in what we have to refer to as ‘Leafy Hampshire’ we are a little behind most other counties when it comes to the changing seasons, we cling onto the sun and warmth just that little bit longer and as you will see from the picture above, our trees haven’t quite taken on their autumn hue.

Autumn is the most wistful season, a time to reflect. It is also a season for looking forward, forming ideas, enjoying the harvest and making plans for the year ahead. We will soon be hunkered down, but for now we are all busy packing away Hallowe’en, and getting ready for bonfire night and yes, Christmas.

We know that it’s been another tricky year for many but we cannot lie, our Christmas decorations are ‘flying out of the door’, there is a genuine sense of optimism among many businesses and our overflowing order book is testimony to this stoicism.

(It’s not too late to order decorations for your workplace, simply choose your design from our Christmas Collection and we do the rest, our teams come along to install the lot, then they come back to take everything away again)

Sorry, we drifted into sales mode there, that’s not like us at all.

Fun Fact. The word fall, often ascribed to American English is actually a very old English word for the season. ‘We’ used it here until around the 17th century before autumn was more commonly adopted and prior to this, we employed the word Harvest to describe the third season of the year.

As well as Christmas Elves and Crackerjack Tree Decorators we also have one or two rather splendid cooks in our team, so please keep an eye out for some recipes that might be coming your way, including pumpkin soup, mulled wine, hearty vegan hotpot and traditional Parkin.

So there’s our View from the Marsh. Wherever you are, whoever you are with and whatever you’re up to, everyone at Green Team Interiors hopes that you enjoy the season of mists and mellow fruitfulness.
