Schlumbergera truncata is a species of epiphytic cacti that is commonly known as Christmas cactus. The plant flowers during the winter months from November to January and make wonderful Christmas displays in a variety of colours. What you may not know about Christmas cacti however, is that they actually need their beauty sleep! Until the buds bloom, the festive plant requires 14 hours or more of continuous darkness per day.
